Rüsselsheim. There are already more than 30,000 orders for the new Opel Meriva throughout Europe, even though the small monocab does not arrive at dealerships until June 12 in Germany. “We have never had such an impressive response to a vehicle in this segment,” says Alain Visser, Vice President Sales, Marketing & Aftersales Opel/Vauxhall enthusiastically. “This is shown not only by the large number of orders, but also by the first analyses of the customer and media response. The new Meriva’s design and its innovative concept obviously satisfy the tastes of customers.”

During 2010, 50,000 Merivas are planned to be sold throughout Europe; and in its first full sales year, 2011, Opel expects sales of up to 130,000 vehicles. Prices in Germany start at 15,900 euros.

The new Meriva combines elegant design with a high degree of functionality. It is the first car in the world to receive a seal of approval for its overall ergonomic concept from the back experts and therapists of the “Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.” (Action for Healthy Backs). The concept consists of the FlexDoors, the approved ergonomic front seats, the FlexSpace rear seat system and the integrated FlexFix bicycle carrier. All of these features are good for the back and put as little strain as possible on the spine.

All the new Meriva engines conform to Euro 5 emissions standards. The outputs of the three gasoline and two diesel engines range from 55 kW/75 hp to 103 kW/140 hp. Three additional diesel engines are to follow later this year.
