  • Wide range of variants sets standards in light commercial vehicle segment in Europe
  • Best-in-class in fuel economy and very low operating costs

Rüsselsheim. The new second generation of the Opel Movano will make its market debut with an unrivalled selection of body types. The practical multi-talented van introduces a host of innovative technologies, superbly comfortable and practical interiors, competitively low fuel consumption and overall operating costs. The launch begins with various panel van versions starting at 24,990 euros, excluding VAT in Germany (L2H2/FWD/3.3 t) and the sales portfolio will continue to expand throughout the year. The Movano embodies the promise:  No job too big.

When the Movano goes on sale in April, 2010, three of four vehicle lengths, one of three roof heights, two of three new 2.3 CDTI engines (74 kW/100 hp, 92 kW/125 hp) and two weight classes with 3.3 and 3.5 tonnes gross vehicle weight will be available. The 107 kW/146 hp engine will be introduced shortly thereafter. In addition to front-wheel drive versions, models with rear-wheel drive will also be on the market for the first time.

The model range will then quickly be rolled out to its full scope, totaling more than 300 possible variants that meet nearly every need in the light commercial vehicle sector. In the next phase Opel will introduce the front-wheel drive models with automated Easytronic manual transmission, the chassis versions with individual and crew cabs as well as the platform cab models.

These will be followed by the high-roof variants (H3) of the L2, L3 and L4 length versions. Vans with short wheelbase and low or medium-height roof (L1H1 und L1H2) Combi versions will come at the end of year. The portfolio will ultimately be rounded off by Easytronic for the rear-wheel drive models.

A tailor-made model for every need

The new Movano’s unique modular platform enables designs optimized for weight class with front or rear-wheel drive, whereby rear-wheel drive offers higher payload and towing capacity. Another very practical advantage is that the vehicles are specially equipped to be further converted for tailor-made usage.  Drop-side and tipper versions are also available ex works.

The new Movano can be specified in three wheelbases from 3.18 to 4.33 meters, four exterior lengths from 5.05 to 6.85 meters that allow for cargo load lengths on floor from 2.58 to 4.38 meters. There are also three interior roof heights from 1.7 to 2.14 meters, while load volume ranges from 8.0 to 17 cubic meters. The cargo area offers best-in-class accessibility, loading ease, internal height and load capacity in its segment. Gross vehicle weight ranges from 2.8 to 4.5 tonnes and maximum payload reaches up to 2.5 tonnes, depending on body design.

The new Movano is also top notch when it comes to towing. Depending on the variant, towed weight can reach up to 2.5 t on front and rear-wheel drive versions with single rear wheels or 3 t for the rear-wheel variants with dual rear wheels.

Exemplary economy: maintenance and wear-and-tear costs reduced by 24 percent

The new Opel Movano also sets standards in terms of low costs, especially for spare and wear-and-tear parts. Particularly durable are the brake and clutch components. Maintenance costs are also much lower: An oil change is only required every 40,000 kilometers or annually, and the coolant only needs to be changed after 160,000 kilometers (predecessor model: 120,000 kilometers). The vehicle has been engineered for exemplary durability, with a service life of 400,000 kilometers.

This adds up to an impressive finale: Maintenance and wear-and-tear costs for the new Opel Movano are 24 percent lower than the predecessor model.

Moreover, thanks to exceptionally low fuel consumption and emissions, the new Opel Movano also offers the best technological framework for future CO2-based taxation. With total fuel consumption (NEDC) of 7.8 liters/100 km and the corresponding CO2 emissions of 203 g/km, the panel van version L2H2 / FWD / 92 kW/125 hp achieves the best values in its class.
