  • Intense talks with employee and government representatives
  • Period of information and consultation has started

Rüsselsheim. Talks to reach a comprehensive concept for Opel / Vauxhall’s future will be continued in the upcoming week. Management representatives will embark on detailed consultations with employee representatives and plant managers, and continue to talk with government officials.

The company will address:

  •  A funding framework of €3.3 billion, supported by own GM funds as well as support of other stakeholders
  • Product and production plans for the respective sites
  • Proposed reductions in workforce and operating costs
  • Future volumes and investment projections
  • Implementation of the Opel/Vauxhall viability plan

This upcoming round of consultation follows meetings between Nick Reilly, CEO of Opel Vauxhall, with stakeholders including the company’s European employee representatives, EU officials in Brussels and government officials in member states where Opel / Vauxhall operates manufacturing plants.

“We have to create a sustainable, viable business plan for the future of Opel/Vauxhall,” said Reilly. “Although we have completed the development of a plan, no final decision has been taken because we are now entering the period of information and consultation.”

Reilly re-affirmed that the plan would involve a capacity reduction in Europe of approximately 20 per cent and job reductions of approximately 9,000.  According to the current plan, about half of the job reductions would take place in Germany – equivalent to the share that Opel / Vauxhall employs in the country. However, specific numbers for each site are still subject to negotiations.
