Opel Insignia is Europe’s top selling mid-size sedan

Rüsselsheim. In the one year since its launch, the Opel Insignia has captured Europe’s heart. The brand has nearly doubled its share of the European high-volume mid-size segment in the first 10 months of this year, handing Opel its highest market share in this segment in a decade.
In the past 12 months, the Insignia won a total of 32 prizes in 15 European countries, including Car of the Year in 2009. The sedan is Europe’s top-seller. All around, it is number one in its class in five countries and number two throughout the continent. This translates to 16.22 percent market share in its high-volume class year-to-date, compared with 8.19 percent during the same period last year.
Growth is even more impressive when premium brands are included in the high-volume mid-size class: Opel more than doubled its market share here, from 4.75 percent in 2008 to 10.01 percent. This is Opel’s highest share since 1999 at a time when this vehicle class’ share of the whole European passenger car market decreased by 9.7 percent from 2008 to 2009. To date, Opel has received more than 170,000 orders for the Insignia.
Customers are drawn to the Insignia’s innovative technological features available at the moderate prices. Particularly popular equipment includes Opel Eye front camera system, the innovative bi-xenon AFL+ lighting system, the FlexRide mechatronic chassis and the premium ergonomic front seats that carry the “Aktion Gesunder Rücken” (Action for Healthy Backs - AGR) seal of approval.
The Insignia model portfolio offers mobility for every taste. The six gasoline and three diesel engines range from 115 hp (85 kW) to 325 hp (239 kW). The Insignia comes in three body variants and a broad selection of accessories that make it easy for customers to individualize their new car. Customers can choose the model that fits them best, from the economical Insignia ecoFLEX sedan with 160 hp (118 kW) and fuel consumption of just 5.2 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers to the Insignia OPC Sports Tourer with 1530 liters of load capacity.
