Rüsselsheim. On January 1, 2017, Jean-Philippe Kempf becomes a Director of the Opel Group GmbH, leading Opel product communications. The 53 year-old reports directly to Johan Willems, Vice President Communications at Opel Group GmbH. Jean-Philippe Kempf has already been acting Head of this business area since February 2016 and now permanently takes this position over from Bernd Abel, who has left the company.
Originally from Alsace, Kempf is a journalist who worked for the trade magazines Auto Hebdo and Auto Plus in Paris. He joined GM France in 1991 and later moved to Opel in Rüsselsheim. From 2000 to 2005, Kempf was Manager, Motor Shows & Trademark Licensing, GM Europe, and responsible for the appearance of the different GM brands at international motor shows. He began his career in Opel product communications in 2006. In his new position, Kempf is responsible for the areas technology, design, motorsport, classic, lifestyle communications and editorial services.
Also on January 1, Martin Golka takes over Kempf’s function as Group Manager International Product Communications. The 39 year-old from Rüsselsheim was already interim Group Manager and now reports directly to Jean-Philippe Kempf. Golka is an “Opelaner” through and through – he’s been with the company since 2001 in various positions in marketing, sales and aftersales. Before joining the press department in 2015, Golka was the Group Product & Pricing Manager for the ADAM family, Opel KARL and Vauxhall Viva as well as the Corsa.
