Fact file: Chevrolet Aveo sedan
Dynamic small car with family appeal
- Segment: Small
- In the model range since: Summer 2011
Thanks to its fresh, youthful exterior, sporty handling characteristics and its large trunk, the Chevrolet Aveo sedan appeals to young families in particular.
The Aveo sedan projects a purposeful, assertive look. Along with the centerline crease on the slightly swept hood surface, the exposed, motor-cycle inspired headlamps are key features that define its front appearance. The sedan's rising shoulder line suggests a mature, upscale presence reminiscent of that of its larger cousin, the Cruze sedan.
The Aveo's engine line-up comprises three gasoline engines and a diesel unit. A 1.2L gasoline engine is available in two displacements rated at 70 and 86 hp, whereas the 1.4L and the 1.6L engine deliver 100 and 115 hp, respectively. All manual transmission engines can be equipped to include Start/Stop functionality and electric power steering.
The 1.3L diesel engine comes with standard Start/Stop technology, a high-performance common-rail fuel injection system and an advanced, electronically controlled variable geometry turbocharger (with intercooler). When fitted with the 95 hp, 5-speed manual transmission variant of the 1.3L turbo-diesel, the Aveo sedan is one of Europe's most economical four-doors, with a consumption of 3.6 liters per 100 km.
The Aveo has been carefully tuned to suit European driving tastes. Available Electric Power Steering (EPS), as well as Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist (HSA) and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) with integrated Electronic Brake Force Distribution (EBD) are standard and further enhance the vehicle's responsive ride performance.
The interior features craftsmanship and incorporates Chevrolet's traditional dual cockpit with ice-blue ambient backlighting. Customers appreciate the multiple storage spaces in the center stack and the fact that the sedan's trunk can accommodate up to 502 liters of storage. The cabin has two glove-boxes, the second one of which is located in the mid-instrument panel and has outlets for USB and auxiliary devices for discreet connectivity of various electronic appliances. All devices can be operated through the steering wheel controls or radio interfaces and Bluetooth functionality.
Higher trims are available with the Chevrolet MyLink enhanced connected radio. The system aggregates content from smartphones onto the seven-inch diagonal, high-resolution, full-color touch-screen display. Compatible devices can be connected via USB or Bluetooth.
Chevrolet MyLink technology supports the BringGo navigation app, which can be downloaded onto compatible smartphones, as well as the TuneIn and Stitcher apps which connect customers to a wide range of radio stations, podcasts and news. Chevrolet MyLink customers are also able to use Siri Eyes Free, an intelligent assistant that helps get things done just by asking.
The Aveo was awarded a top five-star rating and named the safest car in its class by EuroNCAP, the European New Car Assessment Program, in 2011.
** Customers who purchased a vehicle equipped with the Chevrolet MyLink connected radio prior to the incorporation of Siri and BringGo /TuneIn/Stitcher can opt to have their system upgraded free of charge.
